The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test is a used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. The test measures the amount of PSA in your blood. PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate, a small gland that sits below the bladder in males
What will it show you:
The test will tell you the levels of PSA in your blood. The chance of having prostate cancer goes up as the PSA level goes up, but it can also be a sign of another condition that's not cancer, such as:
- an enlarged prostate
- prostatitis
- urinary infection
