The group B streptococcus test (Group B strep) will look to see if you have the group B streptococcus bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract.
It's a common bacteria carried by 20-40% of adults, usually without any symptoms or side-effects, but can cause serious infections in newborns.
What will it show you:
The test will show you if you are an active carrier of Group B strep. If you are positive you'll be given antibiotics during labor to prevent group B strep disease in your baby.
